This guide explains party planning and registration, social host liability, how to serve alcohol responsibly, staffing and security.

Anyone can throw a party at Stanford. However, most of this guide relates to Stanford students throwing parties on behalf of registered student groups, houses, dorms and registered Greek organizations. These sorts of parties are called, “registered parties.” Even if you are not hosting a registered party, keep reading. In addition to disclosing Stanford’s policy regarding registered parties, this guide contains tips on party-going and on event-hosting in general.
